Summer 2020 Policies

Contacting Us

Due to COVID19 GW has gone to online status for the Summer 2020 semester. The Writing Center will continue to offer our services online for the rest of Summer 2020 but our physical office on Foggy Bottom will be closed. If you need to reach our office staff please reach out via our new Front Desk WebEx Chat  (during regular business hours) or by email at [email protected]

Making an Appointment

While GW is in online status all Writing Center appointments will be conducted online via our video conferencing program Zoom. In order to allow sufficent time for technical adjustments, only 50 minute appointments will be offered - our 25 minute appointment offerings are suspended until further notice. Please keep in mind that when making appointments with us, you may schedule up to TWO appontments per week, up to 50 minutes per day during the Summer semester. In order to maintain this policy, all clients must book their own appointments via WCOnline.

Please be aware that in order to allow sufficient time for our staff to book and send Zoom links appointments can only be self booked 3 hours in advance via WC Online. If you see an open appointment time less than 3 hours in advance, you can contact our staff by email at [email protected] or via our Front Desk WebEx Chat and ask them to book it for you IF you already have an account on WC Online.

Please keep in mind that when making appointments with us, you may schedule up to three appontments per week, up to 50 minutes per day. In order to maintain this policy, all clients must book their own appointments via WCOnline.

See our page on Appointments to learn more about scheduling a time to meet with us!

Cancelling an Appointment

If you are unable to keep an appointment you've scheduled, please cancel that appointment through our online system or contact our office staff via our Front Desk WebEx Chat  (during regular business hours) or by email at [email protected]. At least three-hours notice is required for cancellations. For example, a 2:00PM appointment must be cancelled before 11:00AM. If you cannot give us three-hours notice, your session will be marked as a missed appointment. We appreciate the courtesy of an email even for missed appointments, as other students may be able to sign up for that session in your absence.

Missed Appointments

Appointments will be held for 30 minutes. If you haven't joined the Zoom link for your appointment within thirty minutes of when it was scheduled to start, we will mark it as missed as the remaining 20 minutes is not enough time for a productive appointment.

Because we recognize that last-minute changes can arise in your schedule, we allow up to three missed appointments per semester. After the third missed appointment, your WCOnline account will be disabled; for the remainder of the current semester, you will no longer be able to schedule appointments in advance. You are still welcome, however, to come in for drop-in appointments, as available.

The above policies and procedures have been developed in collaboration with student writers, consultants, faculty, and administrators to strengthen the GW Writing Center's commitment to ethical writing practices and to provide clear expectations of the Center's mission in practice. Feel free to contact the Writing Center Coordinator at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Alumni and Consortium Members

Appointments can be made by GW alumni and our consortium members on a same day or drop-in basis. In order to have an appointment reserved, please contact our Front Desk WebEx (during regular business hours) -or- email us at [email protected] to see what times are available for the day you wish to come.
